West Halifax Cheerleading was formed in 2008 with a small youth team practicing at Prospect Road Elementary School. Now in our 5th season, we've grown to include over 130 athletes on various teams ranging from tiny to senior. In 2013, we're pleased to introduce a new "Tiny" team program for children ages 3-5, to introduce them into the sport of Cheerleading through a fun, recreational program.
WHC's head coaches are credentialed and qualified with more than 35 years experience between them. We have awesome cheer moms who help our athletes every step of the way through fundraising, uniform sizing, and paperwork. We practice on a 7-strip spring floor, and we also have a qualified tumbling coach to help hone those difficult skills. We have a 30 foot inflatable tumbling strip to assist in the learning process, and many helpful assistant coaches with years of cheering experience.
At WHC we are all about family. The parents and families of our athletes are welcome to watch all the practices, and are encouraged to get involved in our club, as volunteers for our competition (Cheer Blast Championships), or as Team Moms, or as part of the moving team, or in any other capacity that they are able. We believe in positive reinforcement, expect dedication and discipline, but above all, insist on the enjoyment of the sport. Cheerleading is so diverse, there is always a place for everyone, of all sizes and ability levels. We believe in cultivating the whole athlete through the sport of cheerleading focusing on individual and team skill improvement.
WHC's Training Facility (THE ORANGE DOME) is located at 401 Bluewater Road, Bedford, NS.
At WHC, we'll find a team that fits you. Our competitive program starts with our minis (ages 6-8/9) and goes all the way up to our open team (new for 2013-2014). Competitive teams practice at least twice per week and compete between 6-8 times per year. Not sure if competitive cheerleading is right for you? We will also be expanding our recreational "tiny" team by introducing recreational cheerleading for youth and junior aged athletes. Recreational teams are less pressure, and only practice once per week. This program will allow athletes to participate in cheerleading without the pressure or costs involved associated with our all-star program. They will still work on all the elements of cheerleading like their competitive counterparts, but will showcase their routine in just a few competitions per year.
